The weathered mica
sits patiently on a bed of creek.
Those above call him fool’s gold,
but he’s actually quite brainy,
once you get to know him.
In fact tonight is trivia night
downstream, but that gets delayed
when a womanly salamander steps on his hair.
She is late for her Wednesday cribbage,
and doesn’t notice how green water gets real luminous
with muscovite and sunlight against her newty spots.
SNATCH, right on food chain’s queue
a bald eagle overhead grabs her,
yellow beak clamped on speckled jaw.
He swoops up, or maybe down for him,
no one can tell,
Excited to show his catch off at the clambake
on the swampy rocks of his neighborhood.
He cuts a vivid slice in the air,
laughing the cloud moisture off
his tickled belly.
Cirrus gobbles him whole,
bringing mineral intellect and amphibian schedule
into utmost elevation.
